5月30日(土)より、大阪にて作陶を行う陶芸家 八田亨(はった とおる)の個展をCIBONE(表参道)にて開催いたします。
本展は、2025年3月に、CIBONE O'TE(Brooklyn) をはじまりとして、世界七か国を巡った世界ツアーの終着点としての展示となります。
その仕事は世界中で高い評価を得てきました。
ツアーは完結の時を迎えますが、しかしその手は緩むことはない、そんな彼の強い意思表示として、CIBONEという東京の地から、彼の仕事はこれからも続いていきます。

八田は20年以上にわたり、ほぼ毎月のように穴窯を焚き続けています。
それは想像し難い膨大な仕事量であり、常に手を休めることなく、ろくろを回し、窯詰めをし、火を焚いてきました。
作家自身が生きる証として行なってきた、その繰り返しから生まれたうつわ。
それを手にした人は、日々使い、食し、明日への力として受け取り、育んでいく。
人生の半分を火と土に捧げてきた彼の仕事から立ち現れてくるものとは、そっと背中を押してくれるような、生きているうつわなのです。

1977年石川県生まれ。大阪府堺市、富田林市にて作陶。土の可能性を追求し、土味にこだわり白掛、黒掛、自然釉、三島など、現代の食卓に映える土のうつわを作る。薪窯で焼成された複雑な奥深い表情は、自然の風景の美しさに例えられる存在感にあふれている。ニューヨークを皮切りに7カ国で開催「Hatta Toru Solo Exhibition World Tour 2025-26」を記念して初の作品集を刊行した。

This exhibition marks the final stop of a global tour that began in March 2025 at CIBONE O'TE (Brooklyn) and traveled through seven countries around the world.
His work has garnered high acclaim worldwide.
While the tour has come to a close, his work will continue from CIBONE in Tokyo as a strong statement of his unwavering commitment.
For over 20 years, Hatta has fired his anagama kiln almost every month.
It is an unimaginably immense workload; he has worked tirelessly, turning the potter’s wheel, loading the kiln, and stoking the fire without rest.
These vessels are born from that repetition—a testament to the artist’s very existence.
Those who hold them use them daily, eat from them, and receive them as a source of strength for tomorrow, nurturing them over time.
What emerges from his work—having devoted half his life to fire and clay—are living vessels that gently nudge you forward.
In this exhibition, approximately 500 works personally selected by Hatta himself will be displayed together as the finale of the tour.
We plan to showcase his powerful “broken jars,” which he considers his finest works, as well as the first public unveiling of his “Clay Lotus” series. We hope you will come and see them.
- Toru Hatta
- Born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1977. He creates pottery in Sakai City and Tondabayashi City, Osaka Prefecture. Pursuing the potential of clay and focusing on its natural character, he creates earthenware pieces—including white-glazed, black-glazed, natural-glazed, and Mishima-style works—that complement the modern dining table. Fired in a wood-fired kiln, his pieces possess a complex, profound expression and a presence often likened to the beauty of natural landscapes. To commemorate the “Hatta Toru Solo Exhibition World Tour 2025–26,” which kicked off in New York and will be held in seven countries, he has published his first collection of works.

Regarding the Toru Hatta Solo Exhibition “Ceramics,” admission on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 will be restricted as follows.
【Saturday, May 30】
Throughout the day, including the opening reception, admission is limited to those with an invitation (Printed Invitation Card).
【Sunday, May 31】
Throughout the day, admission is limited to those selected in the advance lottery and those with an invitation (Printed Invitation Card).
※Printed invitation cards are expected to arrive by around Friday, May 15.
