THE BOX of THINGS of THINKS
IFUJI / Masashi Ifuji

THE BOX of THINGS of THINKS

2026.10.31.SAT - 11.15.SUN
Venue:CIBONE CASE(Ginza)

Woodworker Masashi Ifuji continues to explore the possibilities of the simple tool known as the box, expanding its forms, sizes, and functions while keeping his hands busy.

He focuses not merely on the passive function of storing objects, but on how to create pieces that people want to use in their daily lives, touch with their hands, and keep close by.
Through these simple, familiar forms, he is gradually and steadily expanding the intersection between craftsmanship and daily life.

He generously retains even the extra effort that would be unnecessary if efficiency and rationality were the only considerations.
Just as he layers various colors onto the surface of the wood, Ito’s aesthetic sensibility imbues the simple form of the box with new expressions.

Touching it with your hands, opening it, closing it. It is precisely because these objects evoke a sense of joy in the acts themselves that we can believe they are imbued with the primitive wisdom—the very origin of craftsmanship—that has driven people to use their hands and apply ingenuity in their daily lives.

THINGS and THINKS. Objects and thought.

Thoughts arise through objects, and those thoughts, in turn, give birth to new things. Ito’s boxes embody the joy of craftsmanship and an aesthetic sensibility that cannot be fully captured by words or logic alone.

Simply having one of these boxes at hand can change your perspective on daily life.

A box is a tool for storing things. Yet within it lies the maker’s thought process—and perhaps something that connects to the future of craftsmanship.

This exhibition brings together new colors created specifically for this event, along with a variety of box designs, all of which invite you to reconsider the potential for such small yet meaningful changes.
