茨城で作陶するセラミックアーティスト須藤圭太の個展を開催いたします。

今回はMYOとDressという異なる手法で土を粧す（めかす）行為が施された2つの作品群の展示を行います。

わたしが初めて彼の作品に触れたのはDressシリーズです。大胆にもあるべきうつわのかたちが崩れ、そのカタチに重ねるように、繊細な鋲の並びと張り巡らされた糸がその名の通りオートクチュールのドレスのように仕立てあげられるさまには、ハッとさせられました。

うつわという万人に対して機能する要素をあえて取り除き、 すこし寂しげな表情を見せる陶の、もはや塊に対して、新たな美の価値を纏わせる。
それは少し複雑怪奇な行為ともいえます。

かたやMYOは幾何学的に計算された文様がストイックに陶に彫り込まれた作品。それは肌に祈りを込めて刻むような神聖なタトゥーの趣のようであり、ごくシンプルな器の造形を尊重しながら、土への敬意であると思え、先述のDressにも共通していえる、本来土という素材の持つ美を呼び起こすような神聖な儀にも思ます。

土肌の温もり、陶の筋骨との対峙、そして彼の繊細で神聖な手仕事、 直に目に触れることでわかる、その須藤のストイックな美への探究をぜひお楽しみください。

We are pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Keita Sudo, a ceramic artist in Ibaraki, Japan.

This time, we will exhibit two different types of works, MYO and Dress, in which he uses different techniques to decorate the clay.

I first came into contact with his work in the Dress series. I was surprised to see the way the delicate studs and threads were arranged like an haute couture dress, as the name implies.

The artist dared to remove the element of utsuwa, which is functional for everyone, The pottery, which has a slightly lonely look, is now clothed with a new value of beauty.
It can be said that this is a somewhat complicated and mysterious act.

On the other hand, MYO is a work in which geometrically calculated patterns are stoically carved into the ceramic. It is like the taste of a sacred tattoo, like a prayer carved into the skin, and while respecting the simple form of the vessel, it seems to me to be a respect for the clay and, in common with the aforementioned Dress, a sacred ritual that evokes the beauty of the original material of clay.

The warmth of the clay skin, the confrontation with the muscles of the clay, and his delicate and sacred handiwork, all of which can be seen through direct observation, are all part of Sudo's stoic search for beauty.
