嘉手納重広の個展 Carpenter's WorkShopを、CIBONE CASEにて開催いたします。

今展が7回目となる嘉手納重広の展示ですが、思い返せばわたしたちは、彼の仕事の人生絵巻を見ているような気持ちにさせられます。作品の特筆点としては、手仕事から生まれる木工と、自然化学が産みだした磁力を組み合わせた作品は変わりません。

しかし、木工造形を彼のパーソナリティと置き換えると、第1回の展示から徐々に自我が芽生え、おおきな自然科学の一端と対等になり、そして今、自身の木工造形をより際立たせるための最後のしつらえとして科学技術を迎え入れている、そんな寛容さが見て取れます。それはまさに、生まれたときに手を引いてくれた存在がやがて手を離れ、他者との葛藤を幾度となく繰り返し、そして奇しくも2021年にはわたしたちはmotherというタイトルを彼の個展で付けたように、ある種の寛容さと余白の期を迎え、今に至る、そんな状況を刮目しているといえます。

ここまで、作り手との協働、共闘ともいえる時期を通し、心情の変化を垣間見ることができることは、稀有とも思え、真摯に手と脳を動かし、唯一無二の作品を生み出す嘉手納重広の創作活動はとても貴重であると思います。

Shigehiro Kadena's solo exhibition “Carpenter's WorkShop” will be held at CIBONE CASE.

In this exhibition, his first in two years, you can enjoy the beautiful flowing forms created by his woodworking techniques, which have become more sophisticated than ever before, and the bizarre shapes created by the fusion of magnets that completely ignore the gravity of the earth.

This is the seventh exhibition of Shigehiro Kadena's work, and looking back on it, we feel as if we are watching a picture scroll of his life.The special feature of his works remains the same, which is the combination of handcrafted woodwork and magnetism produced by natural chemistry. However, if we replace woodworking with his personality, we can see the gradual emergence of his ego since the first exhibition, his becoming equal to a large part of natural science, and now, as a final touch to make his woodworking stand out, his welcoming of science and technology.

It can be said that we are looking at a situation in which the existence that took our hand when we were born eventually leaves our hand, we repeat conflicts with others many times, and then, coincidentally, in 2021, as he titled his solo exhibition “mother,” we will enter a period of a kind of tolerance and blank space, which has now come to pass. We can say that we are now in a period of a kind of tolerance and blank space.

It is rare to be able to catch a glimpse of the changes in the artist's mind through a period of collaboration and struggle with the creator, and I believe that Shigehiro Kadena's creative activities, in which he earnestly moves his hands and brain to create unique works, are extremely valuable.

A work of art = a creator's own way of life.This exhibition is an opportunity for us to write that. We hope you will enjoy his works.
