PIET HEIN EEK のモノ作りは代表的シリーズである廃材木 / Scrapwoodを用いた作品にはじまり、製材されたオーク材やスティール、カッパーや陶器、ガラス など多岐にわたります。彼の中ではその全ての素材は同価値で、その素材の 魅力をどう引き出すのかということが重要だと話します。

今展示会ではPlywood（ラワン材）という安価な素材を用いて作成されたCrisis series の中から、素材そのままの表情を活かした無塗装の作品と、2024年のDDW（ダッチデザインウィーク）で発表した新色を配色したカラフルなコレクションを中心に構成されています。

PIET HEIN EEKが初めてCNCルーターで制作をしたCrisis Seriesは、当時、そもそも素材自体が高級な家具が氾濫し、使用者が限定されてしまう中で、あえて安価な素材を使用し、また構造部分にも化粧を行わず、当初は組み立てもお客様自身が行うことで、素材本来の美しさや、構造の合理性を感じ取れるようにという想いが込められています。シンプルな素材と技法だからこそ、ディテールのこだわりと、使っていく中での表情の変化が感じ取れるシリーズとなっています。

また、今回会場構成を手掛けるのは、インテリアスタイリストとして、第一線で活躍する 作原 文子。“日常にあるPIET HEIN EEK”をテーマに、長年彼の作品を愛用する作原氏だからこそ引き出すことのできる、日常の中で際立つ彼の作品の魅力を新たな側面から発見することができるでしょう。

PIET HEIN EEK's production starts with his representative series of works using scrapwood, and then moves on to oak, steel, copper, ceramics, glass, etc. In his mind, all materials are of equal value. This exhibition will feature unpainted pieces from the Crisis series, created using inexpensive Plywood (Lauan wood), and a colorful collection of pieces in new colors that will be presented at DDW (Dutch Design Week) in 2024. The Crisis Series, which PIET HEIN EEK produced with a CNC router for the first time, was made of inexpensive materials, and the structural parts were not made up, so that customers could assemble the furniture themselves. The original beauty of the materials and the rationality of the structure are expressed in the design. Because of the simplicity of the materials and techniques used, the series is designed to allow the viewer to appreciate the attention to detail and the changes in expression that occur as the pieces are used.

The venue is organized by Fumiko Sakuhara, a leading interior stylist. Under the theme of “PIET HEIN EEK in daily life,” visitors will be able to discover new aspects of the appeal of his works that stand out in everyday life, which can only be brought out by Ms. Sakuhara, who has been using his works for many years.
