天才と狂気の差は紙一重、という慣用句がある。

嘉手納 重広の持つ魅力を表すに相応しい言葉なのだろうと思う。

薄暗い工房で、黙々と光の届かない何かを目指し、手を動かし続ける。
ひたすら木を削り、つなぎ合わせ、まだ見えない何かを求め実験を繰り返す。

首をかしげながらも、何かに近づいていくさま。

まるで被検体となった意思を持たない素材たちが、カチャ、カチャ、と
音を立てながら、組まれ、崩され、、

生まれる。
それはふいに。

そして私たちは驚きをもってそれを迎え入れる。

“There is a fine line between a genius and madness”
There is no other saying that fits the charm of Shigehiro Kadena.
In a dark workshop with little sunlight, Kadena keeps his hands moving.
Continuing his experiment of carving wood parts and connecting them to create something still not known.
Questioning himself but proceeding step by step.
As if each of the materials are put together and taken apart.
And suddenly, it is born.
Works which we welcome with surprise.
